Last Friday, 1st July, saw the first fund raising day held at the Glasshouse in Crick, Northamptonshire in aid of Eddie Stobart’s 2016 chosen charity, When You Wish Upon a Star.
When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission; to grant the wishes of children aged 2-16 years living with a life threatening illness. These wishes have the power to transform the lives of children and their families and since 1990 they have granted over 16,000 wishes across the UK.
Eddie Stobart welcomed four children and their families as VIP guests to join charity patrons and staff from all of the surrounding Eddie Stobart sites for a day filled with joy and laughter at the Glasshouse. Joining our special guests and employees were Batman, Spiderman, Elsa and Anna from Frozen, The Wish Fairy and The Wish Bear, Gladiators’ Saracen, Coronation Street’s Wendy Peters and, of course, our very own Steady Eddie.
The kids were treated to a disco, a wonderful show by the princesses and a magic show from the charity’s magician, and all day there were cakes for sale and the lovely ladies from Rugby Truckstop manned the barbecue, with all the proceeds from those, and the non-uniform day, going to the charity.
Later on Steve Ashley, Operations Director Retail Sector, was locked in the stocks and had wet sponges (and full buckets of water) thrown at him, and there was a huge raffle – drawn by the kids – that included as prizes an X-Box One donated by Logistics People, and an iPad Air donated by Winner.
Throughout the week employees all over the country bid on a signed England rugby shirt, which eventually went for £500, and in one of the highlights of the day, Tom Whawell, Insurance Manager, dressed as a fairy, prompting our insurance brokers Stonebridge Corporate to very generously donate a whopping £1,000! Thanks to Terri Smith, Head of Risk & Insurance, for organizing both of these.
The whole day was a runaway success, with all of the kids and their families saying that they’d had a great time, and this wonderful and worthy cause truly brought the Eddie Stobart staff together. We are incredibly proud to have raised a total of £5,683.79 for When You Wish Upon a Star.
A very special thank you to Sue Norris, Jo Duncan, Paul Hughes and the rest of the charity team and everyone else involved in making the day a huge success.
