EXCITING RENAULT TCR NEWS FOR YOUNG AHEAD OF UK CLIO CUP UK AT KNOCKHILL
Hot on the heels of this week’s announcement that Jack Young had been selected for the The British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) Rising Stars programme of support is the latest news that he has been promoted to a seat in Round 6 of the Touring Car Series Europe on September 21st/22nd 2019 at Circuit de Barcelona in Spain. With the support of Renault Sport Racing, Jack will be at the wheel of the brand new Renault Mégane TCR. The car will be run by Vukovic Motorsport, the team that have developed this potent machine.
“This is an immediate step-up up in performance from my Clio so I expect the learning curve to be steep” commented Jack, “but there was no way I was going to miss this opportunity to mix it up with the big boys in the Touring Car Series in Europe.
My focus now is to get to know the new car and my new team as quickly as possible. There is a lot or work to be done between now and end of September in Barcelona and I’m itching to get started.
I’m incredibly fortunate to have a race-track simulator at home in N. Ireland so I expect to be racking up the miles on that too,” laughs Jack. “You might be surprised just how much this technology is helping me this year where I’ve been racing at lots of tracks in the UK where I’ve never raced before.
When you are only 17 yrs old you need to use every little angle possible to stay one step ahead of the more experienced competitors.”
TESTING AT HOCKENHEIM
Today Jack has travelled to the world famous Hockenheim circuit in Germany for a first introduction to the fabulous new Mégane TCR. In addition to the routine seat fittings, familiarisation sessions with team engineers etc Jack will get the opportunity to get the first laps in the new car under his belt. He will get to grips with a more complex car set-up process, tyres choices in this test and bring himself up to speed ahead of the race later in the month.
THINKING OF THE FUTURE
In many ways this is just another learning exercise for the young driver to see how well he can adapt to the greater intensity of one of the top European touring car events. If he can show the same speed he demonstrates week in/week out in the Renault UK Clio Series then it’s going to be quite a weekend.
